The Writers Here and Now series brings writers of national and international prominence to the University of Maryland. It provides an opportunity for the university community to hear and meet the best writers of contemporary poetry and fiction. The visits by writers include a public reading preceded by a reception at Dorchester Hall and classroom visits with MFA graduate students and undergraduate students in residence at the Jiménez-Porter Writers’ House. Recent visiting writers include: Andrea Barrett, Madison Smartt Bell, Anne Carson, Lan Samantha Chang, Charles D’Ambrosio, Amy Hempel, Tony Hoagland, Major Jackson, Yusef Komunyakaa, Philip Levine, Antonya Nelson, George Saunders, Patricia Smith, Bruce Smith, Susan Stewart, and C.K. Williams.
